West Ham have completed an £8m deal to snap up Saints centre-back, Jose Fonte.
West Ham United have boosted their defensive options as they have completed the signing of Southampton centre-back, Jose Fonte for a fee said to be £8m, according to BBC Sport.
The former Saints captain had rebuffed a new contract offer to remain at St Mary’s after falling out of favour with Southampton boss, Claude Puel. With the likes of Virgil van Dijk’s and Maya Yoshida ahead of the Portuguese international, Fonte’s future looked bleak at the club he had served for 7 years.
The 33-year-old now joins Slaven Bilic’s side as he looks to make an immediate impression for the London outfit. Fonte will add experience to the heart of the Hammers defence and will be an experienced head in an ever-improving West Ham side.
Reports suggest that the transfer includes a possible £1m in add-ons and gives Fonte the option to extend his contract for a further year.
