New Contract: Manchester United complete signing of “invaluable” midfielder

Manchester United have managed to secure midfielder, Michael Carrick’s services at Old Trafford for at least another year.

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho is certainly taking no time to make his presence felt. Today, English midfielder Michael Carrick penned a new one-year-deal with United.

The former Spurs anchor-man joined the Red Devils back in 2006 and has been a humble servant for Manchester United ever since. A player who doesn’t always laud the plaudits, Carrick’s performances of late have certainly not gone unnoticed under the watchful eye of new boss, Jose Mourinho; who described the 34-year-old as “invaluable”.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Mourinho said, “Michael has a wealth of experience from his many years at the club and that knowledge will be invaluable to me. I am really looking forward to working with him.”

With over 400 appearances for United in 10 years, Carrick will ensure experience and quality remains in Mourinho’s midfield. A player who is still on the periphery of the international game, could Carrick be back in the reckoning for the England squad once again if he performs under Mourinho?

How much of a bonus is it for Manchester United that Carrick has penned a new deal with the club?

Has Mourinho done the right thing in signing Carrick?
